Man becomes multimillionaire whilst buying sandwich

An American man who simply wanted to buy a sandwich ended up becoming a multimillionaire, after buying a winning Lottery ticket to get the change back to buy his lunch.

Richard Noll, from Revere, near Boston, Massachusetts, only had a $100 bill, and wanted to break so that he could buy himself a sandwich. In order to get the cash, he decided to buy two Platinum Millions scratchcards for $20 each at the Lanzilli’s Grocery store in East Boston.

Little did he know that one of the cards was worth $10 million. With the prize confirmed by Massachusetts Lottery in a statement, Noll and his wife Lisa claimed the money at the Lottery HQ in Braintree last Thursday.

Choosing the cash payout option, the couple received a total windfall of $6.5 million after tax.

The Nolls have said little about their win, although they did say they had some plans for the money. They currently intend to buy a new house, as well as making investments. They also plan to take their granddaughter to Disneyland.

The Platinum Millions game, launched in 2013, has now crowned its third $10 million winner. There are still two $10 million prizes left, along with 16 smaller $1 million jackpots left in the game.

Noll wasn’t the only person celebrating the win either; the Lanzilli’s Grocery store also toasted the occasion after being awarded a $50,000 bonus prize for selling the winning ticket.
